Employment Philosophy
The employment philosophy of Catholic Human Services, Inc. is an expression of the Church’s long standing concern for dignity and fairness in the work place. Mutual satisfaction on the part of the employer and employee is essential in order for the vision of CHS to be fulfilled and for its mission to be carried out.
Mindful of the ways that work defines and shapes our lives, CHS is determined to strive to create a work environment characterized by professionalism, grace and dignity. This is important to us, for we are convinced that a vibrant, healthy work place that strives to bring out the best in us will in turn enable us to bring out the best in those we seek to serve. Toward that end, we are resolved to champion several factors that we believe contribute to a lively, fulfilling culture of productivity.
           A COMPELLING
A SPIRIT OF OPENNESS: We desire consistency between our message and the reality of our everyday interactions. We value a work system that is open, accountable, participatory, and willing to listen. We are resolved to model our message.Â
THE PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE: In an environment that welcomes new ideas and delights in innovation, work becomes an adventure. We draw inspiration, energy, and identity from the excellence of our peers. We encourage each other when resolve flags and celebrate with each other in times of triumph. We are happily restless, for we are always striving to find a better way.
AN ATMOSPHERE OF TRUST AND RESPECT: We believe that what is good for the agency and what is good for the employee is usually the same. If either agency or employee is hurt, each is wounded. If either thrives, both thrive. Since the interests of the staff and the agency are indivisible, every employee is important. In an atmosphere of trust and respect, employees feel appreciated and supported.
FLEXIBILITY AND REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION: As meaningful and important as our work is, it remains but an aspect of each employee's existence. We are resolved to attempt to approach work flexibly so other important dimensions of life can also be experienced.Â
          Â
PLAYFULNESS AND GOOD WILL: Our work is often emotionally exhausting, so it is important that we strive to restore each other with lightheartedness and humor. Rejecting the notion that work must be somber and onerous, we unapologetically claim the creative, healing power of laughter.
